Shopping on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, has become a well-established national tradition, but Small Business Saturday is slowly emerging as a phenomenon of its own. This year, November 26 will mark the second annual Small Business Saturday, “the day we celebrate the Shop Small movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S.”
It’s no secret that small businesses are a major driving force in the country’s economy, and that is exactly why American Express OPEN, the company’s small business unit, is urging shoppers to get out there and “shop small” this Saturday. After all, “[w]hen we all shop small, it will be huge.”
Over 200 organizations have joined forces with American Express OPEN to support the idea, and small businesses can still get in on the excitement by checking out Small Business Saturday’s website and Facebook page for some free marketing tools and even a chance to win free Facebook advertisements.
Speaking of winning things, LegalZoom will give 10 lucky winners $100 to use toward starting a business with LegalZoom via Facebook sweepstakes. For full rules and to fill out an entry form, visit LegalZoom’s Facebook page. The contest ends on November 26 (Small Business Saturday), so hurry!
Now back to Small Business Saturday — if you’re not sure where to shop in your area, you can check out this handy tool at Small Business Saturday’s Facebook page; just enter your zip code and find small businesses near you. If you’re a business owner but your place isn’t showing up on the listing, be sure to add it so others will know to come by your small business and get some shopping done.
