Madonna’s new perfume Truth or Dare is now facing legal problems in addition to the backlash for television ads at least one network found too racy to air in primetime.

Australia’s Sunday Telegraph has reported that RJ Williams, a noted artist from Sydney, is filing a trademark infringement lawsuit against Madonna, alleging that the “M” on the bottle of Truth or Dare is too similar to his own symbol.

Williams has been using his “M” for eight years on clothing and registered the trademark for it in Australia last year, according to the Telegraph; he recently sent a letter to Madonna’s manager asking the pop superstar to cease and desist use of the logo, to purchase a license for future use, and to turn over any profits earned up to this point.

“It’s about my integrity as an artist,” Williams told the Telegraph. “I do not think it should be able to be used by a giant cosmetics company.”

Advertisements for Truth or Dare perfume have also come under fire, with ABC telling Madonna that either the commercials get cleaned up or the network would only air them after 9 p.m.

Do you think the two “M” logos are confusingly similar? Does Williams have a good argument that Madonna is infringing on his trademark?
